Saying Goodbye to Paris - The Pits and The Peaks
Last week was my last week in Paris. I've enjoyed meeting new people and sharing this unique experience with them. At first, I had a tough time adjusting to being away from my family and friends back home but I managed to start enjoying myself. I'm still struggling with having to travel by myself. I know it will be an opportunity to get to know myself better. As antisocial as I am, I do enjoy sharing experiences with others.
The only pit I can think of was school. Not because it was school, I generally enjoyed going to school back home. But ISC was something else. I was looking forward to Luxury and Merchandising and Luxury Product Management, which were slightly disappointing because of the level of disorganization. I appreciate that my Lux prof was open to feedback about the course and took us to L'École des Arts Joailliers. A unique experience that I believe is not open to tourists.
The unprofessionalism at the school was far too much. I tried hard to keep an open mind but was still disappointed. My PR prof was conducting the hot mess express. I have no clue what his deal is, and I bet he doesn't have a clue, either.
The peaks of my time in Paris were the Dior Gallary - a great experience. If you find yourself in Paris, I highly recommend it. Going to Lisbon (despite the drama) and Florence - the Gucci museum was so good and seeing the Birth of Venus. The friends I made - going to bars and having a great time just hanging out. Getting to see Versailles was honestly a dream come true.
During my time in Paris, I've learned the type of friends I want, the sort of city I want to live in, that Fendi sells coffee (if you know, you know) and that in France, the Easter church bells drop Easter eggs, not the Easter Bunny. There were times when all I wanted was to back to "home", meaning Paris, but also times when I just wanted to be back home. However, the adventure is not over yet. Over the next month and a half, I will travel by train and spend some time outside of Paris with the friends I have made.
My next adventure beings in Belgium, and I plan to spend a day in Burges. Then off to 's-Hertogenbosh for the Jheronimus Bosch Art Center and spend time in Amsterdam. I plan on seeing Bergen. I hear it's beautiful (sadly, my Norwegian Besties will still be in Paris). Next, I will be in Berlin for a week of techno clubs and Jägermeister with my German Besties. Then, exploring Eastern Europe (Warsaw, Prague and Budapest) and finishing in Vienna with my Austrian Bestie - we are planning a trip to Greece and Albania.
Even though I had a hard time at first, there wasn't anything I would do differently.
